What to visit in Sottomarina? First of all the fishing village of Chioggia, a must-see for those in the area, its suggestive historic centre of narrow streets (calli), small squares (campielli), historic buildings and the nine bridges on the Canal Vena make of Chioggia a small Venice rich in history and beauty.

In Chioggia fishing is an institution (its market is the largest one of the Adriatic Sea). An original idea to appreciate it is a boat trip with the marinanti, the Chioggia fishermen, through the water mirrors of the Venetian lagoon while tasting fish and Chioggia typical products.

From Chioggia to Isola Verde there is a 10 km-long coastline of fine beach with recognized beneficial properties for health dotted with beach resorts. The beach promenade also offers a bike path that connects the Sottomarina Dam  to the Brenta Dam.

The naturalistic itinerary along the Riva del Lusenzo is a circular route of about 7 km with a cycle-pedestrian path that connects Chioggia and Sottomarina, a relaxing place where you can stroll undisturbed on foot or by bike away from the chaos and smog.

At the gates of the Po Delta Park, where the Brenta and Adige rivers meet the sea, the reserve is a protected natural area of 113 hectares full of holm oaks, old oaks and high fossil dunes, among the oldest in the northern Adriatic. The area can be visited on foot, by bicycle and with guided tours.

Among the places to visit in Sottomarina, impossible not to mention Venice and the other islands of the lagoon, first of all Murano, Burano, Torcello, Pellestrina and the Lido. From Sottomarina you can reach Venice and its islands by land (by car or public bus) or by sea, with the ACTV public service from Chioggia and Sottomarina or by relying on organized boat excursions.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a protected natural area of extraordinary beauty covering approximately 54,000 hectares, less than an hour's drive from Sottomarina. The park offers a wide range of activities and excursions, to be done on foot, by bike or by boat, and wonderful views, habitats for pink flamingos, herons and many other bird species.
