The heart of the Tegnue beats here!!!!.

From 25 October 2023 the Hotel Le Tegnùe has the honor of hosting the institutional headquarters of the association “Tegnue di Chioggia”. To have been chosen as reference point to protect and value our Adriatic Reef makes us proud.

For our Guests it means to stay where the passion for the sea and the passion for the culture of our territory meet, offering an authentic and special connection with the underwater wonders of our coast.

The Tegnùe, an underwater paradise off the coast of Chioggia

The Hotel Le Tegnue pays homage, with its name and essence, to the sea and particularly to the amazing “tegnùe”, unique underwater rock formations full of life, characteristic of the Upper Adriatic. An unusual presence already known in the 18^th Century, appreciated by the local fishermen because of rich in fish and, at the same time, feared because it held and broke the nets (hence the term “tegnùe”, i.e. “held” in Venetian dialect).

Built on the seabed by marine organisms thousand years ago, unique in the whole Mediterranean, these “Adriatic Reefs” spread in small formations in all the north Adriatic Sea, with its largest and more spectacular accumulation off the coast of Chioggia.

A precious treasure from a naturalistic point of view and declared as Biological Protected Area in 2002, marked by eleven bright buoys, where fishing is forbidden to protect and value these wonderful oasis of biodiversity.

At a depth between 15 and 40 meters, the scuba divers can dive among sponges, hermit crabs, anemones, rockfishes, congers, lobsters and other scenic and showy animals and plants, in shape and color: a real paradise for the sea and scuba diving lovers.

The diving lovers can explore the “tegnùe” thanks to local associations and to the diving centers of Sottomarina which periodically organize activities and trips for diving into the points of greatest interest.
